    1. “Dayblades and Nightblades. Two sides of the same coin. Some have the power to take lives; others have the power to save lives. It seems as though one is better than the other, but at other times, I wonder if maybe this power is unnatural. Maybe none of us should have these abilities.” Story ⭐️⭐️⭐️After Asas father got murdered in an attempt on a village, Asa becomes a Nightblade to search for the truth and to seek revenge on the murderer of her father. The story itself, especial [...]

    2. Thank you for Netgalley and the Publisher 47North for providing me with an eARC of this book!Sadly, I had to DNF it at 53% and therefore won't give it any star rating. I was really hesitant about DNFing this book (or any book in general), but I decided that my reading time is valuable and I just can't spend it on books I don't really enjoy. This book is the first book in a new series by Ryan Kirk. There seems to be another trilogy set in the same world, which I didn't know about going into this [...]

    3. I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest reviewReally the only thing I liked about this book was Asa, and unfortunately we didn't get nearly enough of her. I thought it was going to be more of a revenge quest thing - something to tide me over until the next Nevernight book comes out really - but this was mostly just random people internal monologuing about politics and if there's one thing that kills a book for me it's too much politics and not enough action. [...]

    4. DNF at 19% because neither the characters nor the plot were engaging enough to continue and judging by other reviews, that doesn't change. The problem with the characters is we have several seemingly important ones, but they blend together too easily. We're not given a chance to get to know them individually through their narratives or inner monologues, and they're not given defining characteristics or character motivations that set them apart. As a result, it's impossible to become personally i [...]

    5. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That was a wild ride. Honestly, I went into this book not knowing what to expect, since I had never read a book by Ryan Kirk. I know he has a whole trilogy set in the same world in which the Nightblade's Vengeance happens, but I don't think it's necessary to read that before going into this book. In this book we follow the story of Asa, a young nightblade whose entire existance is driven by her quest to seek revenge o [...]

    6. Asa is a nightblade that is trying to figure out what happened at a battle where her father died and goes searching for answers. Minori was sent to the capital to stop the lords from taking power away from the blades, who usually keep peace in the kingdom. But people are scared of them now so the lords have been putting restrictions on them that the blades don't like, Minori wants them to be free. Kiyoshi is trying to do what he can to keep peace in the kingdom in case the king dies with no heir [...]

    7. For some reason I found this novel difficult to identify with and didn't finish it.Others obviously really enjoyed it especially those who had read the Nightblade series.I would say 'give it a go' and don't be swayed by my response. I will probably pick it up again at a later date and see if at a different moment in time I am more receptive.A NetGalley ARC

    8. *** I received a free advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ***This summer I read the first Nightblade trilogy: I loved the first one (the world-building, the three different stories running in parallel and occasionally crossing over), enjoyed the second one (character development was the focus plus setting up the conflict in the conclusion) and tolerated the final book (largely a repeat of the same plot as the first two plus a number of loose ends left un-tie [...]

    10. Release date: 27 October 2017Actual rating: 3.5 starsI loved the world building in this novel; it is the first book of a second trilogy in the Nightblade world as created by Ryan Kirk but I wasn’t aware of that and happily absorbed myself so don’t let that put you off. It is possible to say that I kind of preferred the world over the actual plot itself but not by much, it has to be said. I don’t want to say too much about the plot as this is one of those books that every thing adds up to t [...]

    11. This book started out slowly for me. There is a lot of worldbuilding early on that is necessary to understand characters motivations later but then once the action and intrigue kicked in it was an absolute rollercoaster.

    12. Don't need to read the trilogy before reading NV as this story is from an earlier time then the others. Another great readA great story in the nightblades saga. Twists and turns with an unexpected ending. I received this ARC for my honest review.

    14. 4 stars I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion. This is a really good start to a new fantasy series. This is the first book that I've read by this author, but certainly won't be the last. The story is set in a "Kingdom" that reminds me of feudal China or Japan. The King is sick and dying with no heir. Members from the three ruling families sit on the King's Council. Each family tries to maneuver to take over the throne upon the King's death. The Kingd [...]

    15. I received a free copy of Nightblade’s Vengence as I won the Giveaway for this novel, I don’t have to leave a review, but I am choosing to do so. Nightblade’s Vengence is the first in a new series about the Nightblades by Ryan Kirk. This new series does a wonderful job of explaining the backstory in such a way where new fans (like me) can start off here without having read the older series (though I’m sure they would add extra depth and understanding to the series).(view spoiler)[ I me [...]

    16. This story takes places in a feudal society with kings, lords, dayblades and nightblades. Dayblades and nightblades can both use sense which makes nightblades epic warriors and dayblades renowned healers. Asa is a nightblade who wants vengeance for the death of her father and the destruction of her family. Minori is a nightblade who wants the nobility to give nightblades more rights and freedoms; rights and freedoms that have been stripped from them after one fateful event. Kiyoshi is a dayblade [...]

    17. I think what got me the most on this was the lack of character description and the fact that this title is a sequel to an already established series in the same world. I hate when those kinds of series happen. I'll be interested in the sequel because of the summary, but I have to read the first series in order to understand the world better, which also plays a part in how a reader understands the author's writing style and how it has changed, or not.Anyways. I love this type of world. The old wo [...]

    18. I received a free copy through Netgalley, in return for an honest review.Minori is a nightblade who wants to hold onto the power they still have before it is too late, and the blades are overrun. Kiyoshi is a dayblade tending to the King, trying to keep him alive long enough to make him choose his heir. Both take a different path, both believe that they do what they can to protect both the blades and the kingdom. Then there is Asa, who wants revenge, and with that might upturn everything they bo [...]

    19. Set well before the events of the first trilogy, Nightblade’s vengeance follows the path of young Asa. Impressing even the blade council with her singular devotion to the cause of personal vengeance, Asa is sent out in search of a man that has been erased from blade history. Her quest takes her to the archives in the King’s court where she finds herself a pawn in the political maneuverings of powerful houses and blades. During her time digging into the past she befriends another young blade [...]

    20. Exciting new fantasy. I really enjoyed this book, it is based on a feudal system of government which is in jeopardy because the King is old and ill with no heir. There are different groups that seek power as the King declines, the wealthy lords and the kings council that consists of both nightblades and dayblades. The nightblades reminded me of samurai warriors with special powers. The kings council has nightblades Minori trying to gain more power for the nightblades like they had before the mas [...]

    21. "I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.”I didn't realize that there was a trilogy already in this world but it didn't stop me from enjoying this book. It's hard to describe this book without giving anything away. The three main characters were really great. Kiyoshi wants to help keep the peace in the Kingdom and Minori wants the Blades to have more power. They both believe they are doing the right thing. The more into the book I got the more I un [...]

    22. At first, I didn't think this book was much of anything special But I got more interested the further into it I got. Kiyoshi particularly, I thought was an inspirational character. I wasn't too impressed with Asa; I'm kind of over the whole living for revenge and only revenge thing. But, the author did a nice job of making this major character a pretty small part of the story, considering. And man The ending was really something! I mean that in a good way. It was stunning. I want to go on, but d [...]

    23. As a whole I really enjoyed this book. There was enough information given to follow the storyline, without the excessive exposition sometimes needed in fantasy books. It took me several chapters to get into the story, but once I was, I had no trouble finishing this imaginative book. I took off one star for the slow start and slightly predictable path, but look forward to reading the next book when it is released.

    24. Hubbard's Vengeance (Blades of the Fallen Book 1) ReviewDear Ryan, this story was excellent and definitely shows vengeance and hatred is not rewarding. Love is the answer to everything. Forgiveness is paramount to living a stress free life in harmony with everyone and everything. I highly recommend reading this book to anyone interested in a great story. Ryan, Thanks for the entertainment!

    25. ~DNF at 26%~Unfortunately this book just didn't quite reach the mark for me. It took me over a week to get 25% of the way through the book and when I put it down I had no real desire to pick it back up again. I think because it wasn't hooking me and I had a few issues with the writing, (there were instances when two characters would be interacting on a page and the author would mention their names numerous times i.e 'Character 1 did this and then character 2 said this. Character 2 then did this [...]

    26. I have read all those of Ryan Kirk’s books and of them all this was the most engaging to me. It was a great mix of political kingdom stuff, tense scenes and character development. There are some twists I did not expect. My favorite so far of Kirk’s stories. Definitely could be a stand alone book , but I have already ordered the 2nd book in this set, Nightblade’s Honor. My only wish has always been to have a nice map for this Three Kingdoms/Nightblade world he is building.

    27. I haven't read anything by this author before, so I was really interested to see if I would like this book. And I did! It was an interesting story that had a flawed heroine, but I am came to respect her in my own way. It was a thought provoking book, and I hope I get the chance to read the next in the series. I am interested to see where the character of Asa will go.

    28. The blades continue to battleRyan kirks nightblade series fascinated me. I enjoy the rush when blades use their sense to do battle. This book has everything I love about good battles but I'm not sure I was in love with the story as much. I am interested if the story will continue or not.

    29. I received this bool as a giveaway. The pacing and writing style kept the pages turning quickly throughout the book. I enjoyed the magic structure and how it played off of the concept of chi. The story and your connection with the characters leaves you wanting to find out more, which is the perfect set up for the second book.

    30. Poor followingI really enjoyed the nightblade trilogy and was looking forward to this book but it was a big disappointment. The story wasn't interesting and the characters were under developed and difficult to like. All in all a shame.
