    1. For as long as I can remember, I have held a fascination with WWII stories, whether it’s tales of heroic Resistance fighters, espionage or even just the determination to survive and so when I found out about “The Revenge of Tirpitz” I knew this book would hold a tale of some interest for me. With such a wonderfully intense and atmospheric opening this book captured my attention immediately, who was this man, why was he hiding from the Nazis, who was helping him, why did he need to get away [...]

    2. Actual Rating: 3.5 StarsThe Revenge of Tirpitz starts very intense. The only thing we know is that there is a man trying to get past the Nazis – and he succeeds. After this catching opening chapter we learn about Erik, a Norwegian boy, and his special friendship with a German radar operator. They both are part in one of the most important tasks in WWII. While we learn about this story, we also get chapters set in the present (2014). These chapters tell us about the story of the great-grandsons [...]

    3. Bearing in mind this book is YA fiction I have to say it was absolutely brilliant. Writing a fictional story about real events is never easy, but the author managed to balance it out perfectly. The story, tackling the topic of Nazis and World War II, was gripping and very intense from the very first page. There are two storylines, one 70 years ago and one in the present. I feel the one from past was much stronger and more interesting, perhaps because it was based on facts while the one in presen [...]

    4. The opening chapter of The Revenge of Tirpitz has to go down in history as one of the most pacey and exciting I have read in a long time. Weaving seamlessly between the Second World War Norwegian Resistance and modern day Shetland, it contains enough jeopardy and danger to retain any child's (and adult's) interest - Sloan is a master of the cliffhanger. The stakes are continually high - as they were in reality for war-time undercover agents. I love the fact that children play a pivotal role in s [...]

    5. The Revenge of Tirpitz, by M.L. Sloan, is a thrilling action-packed WWII adventure across the generations, featuring spies, ships, and Nazi gold. The book interweaves stories from two eras. In Norway, in 1944, young Norwegian Erik becomes friendly with the German radar operator Hans, and soon becomes embroiled in a plot to help the allies in the war against Germany - most importantly, by helping attack the huge Nazi warship, Tirpitz, scourge of Norwegian waters and the terror of the Allied convoy [...]
