    1. Serial Date continues the Leine Basso story after the prequel "The Killing Truth", a brilliant book.Four years later, divorced living a quite life in Seattle, hardly any money left and a daughter that has disowned herIn an unexpected turn of fate, former assassin Leine Basso is offered a job working security in Los Angeles at a gigantic hit reality show called Serial Date--where beautiful young women get to date ex-cons posing as serial killers. 2. Now this, this is what thrillers are made of: grit, spunk, no-nonsense and one-hundred-and-ten-percent unputdownability. (Yes, I made that word up.) I’m not going to make any excuses for using those frequently bandied-about words like 'fast-paced', 'action-packed', 'page-turner' because this book quite simply is all of those things and more. So, by now you’ll have realised that I really liked this book. I just love picking up a book by an author I’ve not read before, thoroughly enjoying the [...]

    3. Our protagonist is Leine Basso, former professional assassin. The story is centered around a tv reality show, Serial Date, in which the pretty, young contestants are vying to become True Love of one of the shows "serial killer" hot guys. Of course, the men aren't really serial killers, because that would be way too dangerous and we can presume the insurance company nixed that. However, the young women don't know that until after they've signed the non-disclosure agreement, so we can take it as a [...]

    4. A reality dating game for ex cons to find love, and its all fun and games until someone is murderedIt was a fast easy read with typical drama you would expect from a real reality show. When something says thriller i want my heart racing, palms sweating (not literally becuase i would damage the book but you know), and the hair on my arm to stand straight up! This book did not do that for me, it was a fine book (incorrectly marked as thriller) but not a thriller.

    5. I’ve been reading this series out of sequence, starting with book three, The Body Market, then the prequel novella A Killing Truth, and now book one. I recommend reading the prequel first. Although the books work well as stand-alones, and the author handles backstory well, giving short doses where needed, Leine Basso is a complicated woman with a complicated life. I understood this story better for having met some of the off-stage characters previously. The other books I’ve read so far by thi [...]

    6. Serial Date + Serial Murder = Serial KillerSerial Date is a fast paced, tension filled suspense thriller that had me engrossed from cover to cover. The quirky and twisted characters made me wonder who was running the asylum. I love her covers. The colors are vibrant and they foretell the story inside.A brutal, heinous murder on a reality TV show brings in Leine Basso, an ex Agency assassin, to watch over the contestants. The show consists of ex cons dating hot women and pretending they are seria [...]

    7. Serial Date was a surprisingly entertaining read filled with witty writing and dark humor. In an unexpected turn of fate, former assassin Leine Basso is offered a job working security in Los Angeles at a gigantic hit reality show called Serial Date–where beautiful young women get to date ex-cons posing as serial killers. Though L.Aings her bad memories, Leine can’t just ignore $2,000 a week, especially when she needs the money. Already there’s been one murder: one of the young women on the [...]

    8. A Page-Turner Leine Basso is tough, smart and she can take care of herself. Leine (Madeleine) started a new career after leaving the Agency and she gets caught up in what turns out to be a fast-paced story of intrigue and kidnapping. A page-turner – highly recommended.

    9. With a snarky nod toward reality tv and politicians, this murder/kidnap thriller is a real page turner. I didn't have the issues with context/backstory as some reviewers did because I had read A Killing Truth (Leine Basso #5 prequel) before reading Serial Date. I think reading #5 first made this a more enjoyable reading experience for me. The Leine Basso series is darker and grittier than the Kate Jones series and while I think this is a good book, it's not for the younger crowd18+ please.

    10. Brilliant read.Wasn´t sure at first with the reality show aspect but stuck with it and glad I did. Fast paced thriller with a promise of more to come. Thoroughly recommend it.

    11. A good thriller about an ex assassine who must pull all the stops to rescue what is close to her.A good read

    12. Contract Assassin Leine Basso might not have a socially acceptable job, but she’s one of my favorite literary heroines. In Serial Date by D V Berkom, Leine is at loose ends in Seattle when an old contact calls and offers her a job doing security for a reality TV show, ‘Serial Date.’ Featuring single women and ex-cons pretending to be serial killers, the show is top-rated. But, when one of the contestants is found dismembered in a supply cabinet, things look ugly, so the show’s security gu [...]

    13. My second read from author D.V. Berkom with a kick ass female lead and we have a winner! I love mystery & espionage & Berkom has both in this book. She's created a character you want to read more about!

    14. Enjoyed this. Retired female assassin Leine short for Madeline is hired as security on a reality show called Serial Date. The female contestants start turning up dead and dismembered. Kept my interest. Good read!

    15. What a wonderfully engaging surprise this book was. Well written perfectly paced mystery. Leine is a real kick a$$ chick!! Plenty of wonderful twists to keep you on your toes. I love the book from beginning to end!! High suspense!!I would love to read more from this author! The book is fast paced with a mixed narrative coming from several POV. Mostly it comes from Leine, who has a whole different sort of perspective! She is a tough as nails kind of gal, which is awesome!!! She really has a lot t [...]

    16. This book is without a doubt one of the most engaging, complex and enthralling mysteries that had me totally in its grip. I was swept into this story so much so that I finished it in one sitting.Serial Date has everything a mystery/thriller needs to be successful, fast-paced and action packed, strong and memorable characters and a story that will grab you from beginning to end. Madeline “Leine” Basso is a character that is hard-nosed, strong and fearless yet compassionate and vulnerable at t [...]

    18. Oh, yes, the dreaded “reality” show. How real are they? At least in the case of the fictional Serial Date, not as real as the producers would like you to think. The male “serial killer” contestants are ex-cons, not the murderers the audience is led to believe, nor is all the action on the show as unscripted and spontaneous as they want you to believe. When a female contestant is killed, the producers have a potential public relations nightmare on their hands. The premise of this book is a [...]

    19. Wow, Serial Date blew me away. This was overall a good read that had me reading well into the night, as I couldn’t put it down. The storyline was a mix of suspense, intrigue, mystery, and some “eww, yuck” moments. I enjoyed how the author, D.V. Berkom, developed the complex characters. Each character seemed to have many layers and were not always what they seemed as you read deeper into the book and their lives. I especially liked one character, Cory, and even though we only saw a short po [...]

    20. This was the first of DV Berkom's books I read, the first on my new Ereader back in Sept 2015. here's the review I posted on Kobo for itI wish I could write; I'd be so pleased if I had made this. This feels like it was written by a "normal" woman; just enough detail with the things that we girls spot, but that show proper attention to detail. I'm buying the next in the series immediatelyFast forward to 2017 and I am updating my reviews on all the platforms I can think of, after they mysteriously [...]

    21. Leine Basso has issues. First she got messed up by her former boss who messed up her life, lied to her, and told her daughter lies about her which has resulted in her daughter not speaking to her for years. Just as she thinks she has a chance to make up with her daughter, things got worse. Detective Jensen has his life planned out, but Leine Basso throws a monkey wrench in the works, and he’s not sure he knows it. Santiago Jensen is dark, brooding, and gorgeous. This book is great. The suspe [...]

    22. From my review: If you like fast-paced thrillers with strong female characters, this book is for you -- Leine Basso is as tough as they come. She made her mark as a hired assassin knocking off bad guys around the world, a career that took its toll in many ways. Her marriage crumbled, her daughter became estranged, and Leine's trying to pick up the pieces of her single life in Seattle. A call from an old contact in Los Angeles disrupts her "retirement", and she agrees to help solve a murder that [...]

    23. First of all, I don't do very good reviews. That said, I found the first 20% of the book slow going due to being introduced to so many characters. After that, when the people started to make more sense, I found I really wanted to know how it all ended. The story is about a gigantic hit reality show called Serial Date--where beautiful young women get to date ex-cons posing as serial killers. A former assassin, Leine Basso, is offered a job working security on the set. Bodies start piling up and L [...]

    24. Berkom is an intelligent writer who understands the nuances of plot, the importance of pacing, and how to create complex, sympathetic characters. In Serial Date, she does exactly that against the sordid backdrop of reality television, with great success. You won’t find life lessons or profound statements on the nature of existence in Serial Date, which is one of the reasons I loved it: It’s unapologetic camp of the best kind, sure to keep you glued to the page as you try to guess what comes [...]

    25. Sometimes, as you read a book, you have some empathy for the bad guy. This is not one of those books. This bad guy is really evil, depraved, and twisted and does unspeakable things. The other less-bad guys are seedy, sleazy and greedy but have a bit of humanity. The organized crime types seem downright civilized in comparison. The main character, a woman who was a professional assassin, is tough yet vulnerable. The romance that arises between this character and the police detective investigating [...]

    26. Former assassin, Leine Basso is a kick-ass heroine. She is smart, strong, creative and quick on her feet. In this book, she was hired as a security consultant for a reality show where the contestants were murdered one after another by a serial killer. The stakes began to escalate when her estranged daughter was kidnapped by the serial killer and Leine was coerced to carry his insane requests. She had to be creative - carrying out his requests while trying to track and capture him before he kille [...]

    27. This book is a mix of intrigue, humour (Bountiful is a particular favourite), romance, and a great selection of dysfunctional relationships all of which result in an enjoyable but light reading experience. What I had the most difficulty accepting was the idea of the reality show 'Serial Date', perhaps this could have been explained more with a short scene (I?m thinking the director pitching the show to executives) but more likely it has something to do with my in-built dislike of reality shows S [...]

    28. Gritty and raw, entertaining and suspenseful: this dark comedy is a crime story that echoes Carl Hiaasen's and Tim Dorsey's black humor and includes a compelling and strong female protagonist. Just some of this main character's back story is revealed bit by bit in the story, and I look forward to learning more about her past. This was an extremely engaging novel, and while the language and content are not for the squeamish, it is well worth the read. I can imagine HBO picking this up for a serie [...]

    29. Good read!I loved this book, I had a lot of fun reading it and I must say it was suspenseful and well written. I have a few criticisms however. I feel that I didn't really get a clear understanding of the killer. What made him tick? how was he able to plant surveillance in her home and on her phone without her suspecting anything, especially since she was portrayed as a kick ass assassin? How could she go and get so drunk that she was unable to answer a call from the killer who had her daughter [...]

    30. If I could give it more stars I would! What a gripping, addictive page turner! This author truly has a gift for thrillers! I found this book unstoppable, it grabbed me and I couldn't let go until it was finished. Amazing plot, characters were well developed and the mystery kept going until the last page. I really enjoyed the mystery throughout and thought Berkom excelled in describing the sordid spoilt life that came with instant fame and fortune! Well worth a read and I would highly recommend i [...]
